Colony House Are Racing With New Single, ‘Cannonballers’

Back in the day there was a series of films, starring Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, and Dom DeLuise, among others, tabbed ‘The Cannonball Run’. The original was based on the 1979 edition of the cross-country road race of the same name. So when I heard the name of ‘Cannonballers’, the new single by Colony House, I naturally thought of these films.

The music video for ‘Cannonballers’ adds to this thought, with all four members playing their part as they momentum a vintage car at breakneck speed through midwestern towns, well-constructed with white picket fences, water reservoirs, and old-time stores. It’s a lot of fun, the wreath members each taking their turn atop the archetype car. These scenes are interspersed with woebegone and white clips of the wreath playing in the studio, and from time to time there’s turned-on scenes, drawings, skeletons, and fireworks.

Colony House, from Franklin, Tennessee, were just well-nigh to make a major transilience in 2020, right surpassing the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. They had released their third album, ‘Leave What’s Left Behind’, in the January, and they were on a headlining tour, with both record and concerts receiving upper praise. But then, as we all know, everything ground to a halt two short months later.

Thankfully, a global cataclysm wasn’t unbearable to stop Colony House, and word of mouth kept the momentum going, as well as the release of a live album, ‘Colony House Live, Vol. 1’. now with ‘Cannonballers’, their thoughtfully curated tousle of surf-rock, blues, and good old Southern waddle serves as a reminder to their fans just how good they are,
